Children’s Programs 


Jammin with You, Fridays, Dec. 5 and 19, 10:30 a.m.

Be prepared to laugh, dance, sing, and jam through 30 minutes of non-stop family fun. Registration is required due to space limitations. The historic nature of the building limits accessibility. From December through March, this program is offered at the Bacon Free Library on the first Friday of the month and also in an accessible location at the Common Street Spiritual Center on the third Friday of the month. 


All Together Preschool Storytime, Mondays and Tuesdays, 10 a.m.

 Join in for stories and songs. The historic nature of the building limits accessibility. This program is also offered in an accessible location at the Morse Institute Library. Check their website for dates, times, and more information). 

Lapsit Storytime, Wednesdays, 10 a.m.

Stories, bounces, and songs for babies up to 24 months and their grownups. The historic nature of the building limits accessibility. This program is also offered in an accessible location at the Morse Institute Library. Check their website for dates, times, and more information.


Read to a Dog, Saturday, Dec 20, 10 to 11:15 a.m.

Kids can build confidence and practice their reading skills by reading out loud to a registered therapy dog. Children ages 5 and older can sign up for a 15-minute reading session with Sophie, a gentle golden retriever who loves belly rubs, stories, and cuddles. Registration is required.

Featured Art Exhibit: Tom Doran: “Ease Your Eyes’’ Through Jan. 28.

Tom Doran creates his unique digital compositions by layering photography and previous artworks. Informed by years of jazz improvisation and the tactile nature of paper collage, his process embraces spontaneity and a pursuit of balance between order and disorder.

Virtual: A Charles Dickens Christmas with Bill Thierfelder , Tuesday, Dec 2, 7 p.m. on Zoom.

Charles Dickens has famously been called “The Man Who Invented Christmas.” Inspired by the writings of Washington Irving earlier in the 19th century, Dickens wrote five Christmas novellas between 1843 and 1848 and over a dozen short stories between 1852 and 1866. Each of these, including the perennial favorite “A Christmas Carol’’ helped to shape how the holiday season is celebrated in Britain and America. Virtual: Healthier Holidays with Empty Nest Kitchen, Tuesday, Dec 9, 7 p.m. on Zoom.

Explore delicious holiday dishes with a Mediterranean flair to incorporate into your celebrations. The Mediterranean diet, which has been linked to a multitude of health benefits, is rich in plant-based foods and oils, with a moderate amount of fish, poultry, and dairy foods. Virtual: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: “The Man Behind the Music”, Monday, Dec. 15, 7 p.m. on Zoom.

Take a glimpse into the world of one of music’s biggest heroes and appreciate his genius through spoken lecture and live piano performances. Dan Lupo, creator of FiveMinuteMozart.com, a music education platform with over two million views and thousands of subscribers, will present a music education program chronicling the life and achievement of one of music history’s greatest composers.  Register at baconfreelibrary.org/event/mozart/.


Virtual: Great American Unsung Heroes who Changed the Course of History, Nikola Tesla, Wednesday Dec. 17, 7 p.m. on Zoom

Nikola Tesla was a trail blazer who created astonishing, life-transforming devices. But he never received the credit he richly deserved. He will get his proper due in this enlightening talk. Register at baconfreelibrary.org/event/nikolatesla.
