Watching a family member navigate the challenges of aging can be both difficult and deeply emotional. Whether it’s increased physical strain after an injury, struggling to climb stairs because of sore joints, losing the ability to drive due to failing eyesight, or even facing the complexities of cognitive issues such as memory loss or dementia, everyone wants the absolute best for those they love most.

Across the region, families are discovering that compassionate care doesn’t have to mean someone giving up the comforts of their own home. At 2nd Family MetroWest Boston, the mission is simple, yet powerful – to help older adults live safely, independently, and joyfully in the place they call home. With personalized services designed to ease the stress of daily tasks and activities, families can worry less knowing their loved ones are supported.

Shawn Kelly recently launched 2nd Family MetroWest Boston to address the growing need in our area for quality family home care. A Natick resident since 2013, Shawn has a strong commitment to community outreach, including coaching youth sports and acting as a director for the Redhawk Foundation, a Natick-based not-for-profit that supports families who are challenged with the rising cost of youth programming.

The motivation to start 2nd Family MetroWest Boston also has a much more personal connection for Shawn. When Shawn and his family faced the difficult decisions involved in arranging care for a loved one returning home after a hospital stay, they saw firsthand the need for compassionate, reliable support that families could truly trust.

“I have a business and consulting background and really wanted to shift my career into an area that was mission-driven, where I believe in the impact that I am making. In our local community, it is clear that there is a growing demand for people who need help but would prefer to stay and age comfortably in their own homes. And because this was a personal interest of mine as well, it is important for me to fill that gap here in MetroWest Boston,” shares Shawn.

Based in Framingham and serving communities throughout the region, 2nd Family MetroWest Boston is a local company built on empathy, trust, and genuine human connection. Whether it is preparing a favorite meal, offering a steady arm for a walk around the neighborhood, organizing medications, giving a ride to a doctor’s appointment, or simply providing companionship, their caregivers deliver more than just support – they bring peace of mind to families who need it most.

At the heart of the company’s philosophy is something they call the Grandma Guarantee® - a promise that they will only hire a caregiver whom they would trust to take care of their own grandmother or loved one. That personal standard ensures that every client is treated with the same love, patience, and respect that every family member deserves. All caregivers are thoroughly vetted with background checks, are Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), are certified in CPR and First Aid, and are compassionate and dependable. Additionally, a Registered Nurse (RN) oversees and customizes every client care plan and serves as the primary point of contact for clients.

2nd Family is also very technology-enabled. The company has its own app that families can use to review pertinent information on their loved one’s care plan and schedules, as well as to communicate with the care team, for a truly seamless experience.

“If our services are a match, we work with families to understand the needs of the individual so that we assign the right staff to provide the best care that meets those needs. The most important thing to us is to make sure that families are aware of various care options so that they can make the most informed decision about how best to support and care for the people they love,” Shawn says.

Known for its tight-knit neighborhoods and multigenerational families, MetroWest Boston is an ideal location for 2nd Family, offering the kind of reliable and compassionate care that enables seniors to remain active in the communities that they have helped to build.
