Charlie Bernath, 3, patient partner for the Jimmy Fund’s ‘A Chance for Kids & Families’ becomes honorary Burger King® team member at the Framingham, location for a day
Charlie Bernath, a 3-year-old Natick resident and patient at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund Clinic, has been named a patient partner for the Jimmy Fund’s 2025 “A Chance for Kids & Families” fundraising campaign. Customers who visit a participating Burger King®, The Paper Store®, or Uncharted location from now through August 31, as well as customers who visited a participating Valvoline Instant Oil Change location between July 13 and August 2, have helped defy cancer by making a donation at checkout to support cancer care and research at Dana-Farber. They also receive a coupon from the retailer to be used at a subsequent visit to thank them for supporting this important cause.
The Jimmy Fund’s patient partner program honors patients who are treated at Dana-Farber, highlighting their stories of strength, perseverance, and hope. To celebrate Charlie’s participation, Burger King included her as an honorary team member at their Framingham, Mass. location. She served customers, met the staff, and enjoyed a cheeseburger, one of her favorite meals, with her mom, Ashley, and sister, Lucy.
Charlie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in April 2024, just two months after her second birthday. Today, Charlie is doing well and continues chemotherapy to prevent any future cancer recurrence. She recently started playing soccer and is looking forward to school in the fall.
More than 160 Burger King restaurants, over 90 The Paper Store or Uncharted locations, and 64 Valvoline Instant Oil Change locations are participating in the 2025 “A Chance for Kids & Families” program.
Since 2000, the Jimmy Fund’s “A Chance for Kids & Families” fundraiser has raised more than $15 million, directly supporting pediatric and adult patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dana-Farber aims to prevent, treat, and defy cancer by accelerating revolutionary science, extraordinary care, and exceptional expertise. The funds raised through this initiative help ensure that all patients receive the critical treatment and support they need at Dana-Farber.
